The Bodleian manuscript from which this drawing is taken, contains the Romance of Alexander in French verse, illuminated in the Flemish region between 1338 and 1344 with miniatures illustrating legends of Alexander the Great and with marginal scenes of everyday life. Our drawing, showing men carrying babies in double panniers, is a fairly crude copy, most likely 19th century, of a marginal scene at the lower right-hand border of fol. 133v. The provenance of this piece is unknown.
